Figma Hulk (THE AVENGERS) Announced With Pre-Orders

Tuesday, September 29th, 2015

Today the Good Smile Company has opened pre-orders for their Figma Hulk figure. This version of the Hulk is based on the 2012 blockbuster movie, The Avengers. I must say it has very nicely captured the raging green-skinned alter ego of Bruce Banner in fantastic plastic form. The Figma Hulk figure stands 21 cm tall (about 8.3 inches), making this the biggest Figma to be made, to-date. The figure comes with a stand to aid in posing. Sadly, no other accessories are included, which is a little surprising. It is priced at 12,000 yen (about $100 USD), but you can find it less than that, around $85 USD seems to be the average from online retailers. Look for it to ship sometime in May 2016.

Detroit Shows Graffiti Is Not Ugly, Artists From Around The World Paint Eastern Market For Murals in the Market!

Thursday, September 24th, 2015

This week in Detroit, Michigan, there has been a fantastic event taking places, the Murals in the Market. Over 45 local and international artists have come to Detroit to partake in a design festival, this includes graffiti art all around the Eastern Market. If you have been there before, you have seen some of the amazing and crazy pieces of art that was featured on the buildings in the market area. Now new pieces have been down and they look just as amazing and are worth checking out. The Murals in the Market event is being spearheaded by 1xRun, which also has limited run prints available from the artists as well. If you enjoy good art, then I definitely suggest checking this out. The overall event is nearing the end, but this doesn’t mean you still can’t check out some of the great art being produced. (Via Fox 2 and MLive)

When Worlds Collide: Stormtroopers vs Aliens!

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015

When it comes to fan favorite properties, one things fans like to do is imagine what it would be like if two were mashed up. We’ve had two favorites already together with Aliens and Predator, but unless they are owned by the same company it is rare to see this happen. Artist Guillem Pongiluppi has brought together two very popular sci-fi properties in this Stormtroopers vs Aliens piece, causing my mind to be blown! What a fantastic creation in this piece. Next to the Star Wars: Death Troopers book, where Star Wars and zombies crossed over, this might be my next favorite mash-up. You can check out the Stormtroopers vs Aliens piece, along with many other fantastic pieces of Guillem’s work on his personal site, and ArtStation page. (Via Kotaku)

A Proud and Encouraging Moment, A Project 20 Years In The Making Becoming A Reality, The Resistants

Saturday, September 19th, 2015

Today in the mail I received some copies of a book that I am working on, The Resistants. This has been a project that I have been working on with a friend of mine for 20 years now. Well we started the project 20 years ago, then things changed course for us and it went to the back burner. Now this year it is set to return and I couldn’t be happier.

The preview copies I received today make me proud to be involved in this project still. The books are more of a “prototype” than a finish copy, we still have coloring to do (what you see for the cover colors are placeholders) and some final tweaks here and there, but it is so very close to becoming a finish product. The preview books were done because my co-creator and publisher of the book, Kyle Kaminski, is attending conventions these last few weeks of the con season and he wanted something in hand he could talk to other creators with.

We will soon be finalizing the first issue of The Resistants series and heading off to the printer, I will be sure to let everyone know about that. I’m excited for you all to see this come to life finally and get into your hands.

New Samsung Serif, Is Design and Tech Merged Beautifully

Friday, September 18th, 2015

I love technology. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a huge Apple fan either. To me they are the masters of design and beauty when it comes to tech. But every so often another company manages to do it right as well. The Nest thermostat is an example of that.

Well today over at Fast Company Design Blog, they posted about the latest the latest TV from Samsun, the Samsung Serif, and it is a masterpiece of design. I already like Samsung’s televisions. I have two of them in my home already. But these TVs are like all the rest, thin, black rectangles. Not exactly exuding beauty. But the Serif, this is something I would love to have in my home. It is a blend of a functional flat screen TV and something that adds to your home as a decorative piece.

Teaming up with French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Samsung set out to try to bring beautiful design back to televisions. I think they succeeded. Check out the video revealing the Samsung Serif below. Let me know what you think?

Welcome To The New Flying Ninja Kick!

Friday, September 18th, 2015

This marks the second attempt to relaunch the Flying Ninja Kick blog. This time it is going to be a little different. I’m still a co-editor over at Pop Critica, but I wanted to have a place where I could be a little more personable and “tinker under the hood” and not worry about breaking things.

With that said, some things I’d like to discuss here or share with others, I don’t think will fit in at PopC and that is okay. The new FNK will be lax and might not be as active all the time, at least for the time being. I still hope you will enjoy what I’m about to do. I’m using the previous look for the time being but will be updating the look here soon, so don’t be surprised by any changes over the course of the next week or two.
